Chapter 8: Ryu Vs. Mike

Ryu had always wanted to visit America, but without Ken it seemed somewhat boring. He had hoped Ken would show him around, but Ken was probably still back east at the hospital.

Anything Ryu had thought about America being boring immediately was forgotten though when he arrived at Mount Rushmore. The carved faces were amazing, and Ryu couldnt help but look at them in awe. After a moment of admiring them Ryu quickly walked down to the battle ground. It was on a cliff facing Mount Rushmore. A guard rail went along the side, and went up to a little higher than Ryus waist.

Far down, aint it kid? a man said, to Ryus left. The Shotokan turned and looked at his opponent. He was black, and though his legs werent as large as Joes his upper body far surpassed the other americans. He wore a red sleeveless shirt with faded blue jeans, and grinned evily at Ryu as he wrapped his fists in bandages.

Mike verses Ryu! the announcers voice said through the surrounding speakers. Fight!

Mike dashed forward and swung his fist sharply at Ryu, who easily pivoted to the side and sent his elbow crashing down on Mikes back. Mike fell to the ground, but rolled away from Ryu to stop any further attack to him. He then raised to his feet and got into a boxing position. But Ryu was already charging and attacking. Unfortunetly for the the young Shotokan Mike had recovered and he swung his fist forward at Ryu. Ryu blocked the blow, but was caught off guard too quickly to counter the next punch, and soon Ryu was pounded on relentlessly until he was finally able to strafe to the side out of the way. He was on one knee now, and having trouble standing. A few of the blows to the ribs had knocked the wind out of him, and he was having trouble recovering. But Mike wasnt going to give him a chance to gain his bearings. He dashed forward at Ryu and slammed his fist into his chest, sending the boy into the air about a yard and a half. Ryu fell to the ground, hitting the black guard rail heavily, but luckily fell to his right and didnt plummet to his death over the cliff. But he still had the concern of dealing with Mike without being able to catch his breathe, move his arm without hurting, and stand up.

Howd you like my Dash Punch, kid? Mike sneered, walking towards Ryu to deliver yet another powerful blow. Ryu laid on his side, grabbing his ribs in pain. Mike pulled his fist back for an attack, but Ryu suddenly pushed himself up off the ground and swung his leg upward, bashing Mike in the jaw and sending at least three teeth flying out of his mouth. Ryu then jabbed him in the stomach, then sent his foot spinning into Mikes face again. Mike slammed into the pavement, hard, but wasnt about to lose the match. He quickly got back up to his feet, letting out a few grunts as he tried to hold back the pain.

Youre gonna pay for that, kid, Mike said. Ryu attacked, jumping in the air and swinging his foot down at Mike. Mike dashed foward, missing the attack and quickly sent his head towards Ryu and grabbed the boys ear with his teeth, wrenching at it. Ryu cried out in pain, but quickly slammed his fist into Mikes gut, forcing the boxer to let go. Ryu then kneed him in the side of the ribs, then smacked him in the face with a mighty axe kick, sending Mike to the ground. Ryu furthered his attack with a Dash Punch and sent his fist ramming down into Mikes face. He then grabbed Mike by the shirt and threw him to the other side of the fenced cliff. Ryu quickly got back into his fighting stance, and waited to see if Mike would get up or not. To Ryus surprise he did, and quickly got into a boxing stance, sneering.

Youre pretty good, kid, Mike said, stepping forward at Ryu. But Im done bein easy on ya.

Mike charged towards Ryu and pulled back his fist, ready to swing it forward. Ryu ducked and prepared to uppercut, but to his surprise, Mike swung his foot up, smacking him right in the face.

A kick!? Ryu thought as he flipped back up to his feet. Ryus thoughts were put to an abrupt stop as Mike slammed his fist into Ryus face multiple times, knocking the him down.

Ken ran as fast as he could. He had taken the first plane to the Dakotas that he could find, and taken a taxi the rest of the way. Now he had to hot foot it. He ran at top speed, hoping he could make it in the match to see Ryu clobber on his opponent.

Now you die, kid! Mike shouted. He lurched toward Ryu and slammed his fist into Ryu. Ryu flew across the cliff finally slamming into the guard rail on the other side.

But this time, he fell.

Ryu! Ken exclaimed, running to the front of the crowd.

Ryu scrambled to grab onto the rail, but missed. Frantically he searched for a hand hold, and was lucky enough to find one and plant his fingers on it in time. He thought he had heard Kens voice, but wasnt sure. But right now he had more pressing concerns.

Heh, heh, Mike chuckled. Looks like the games over for you, kid.

Well, looks...can be decieving! Ryu shouted, pushing off the four hand holds hed found. He launched himself up into the air as far as he could and rammed his head into Mikes knocking the boxer back and dazing him. Ryu grabbed then grabbed the fence and pulled himself up. He saw the Mike was still dazed, and went in for the attack. He slammed his fists into Mikes beaten body, and finally smacked him in the side of the skull with another roundhouse, sending Mike flying to the ground, unconscious.

All right, buddy! Ken exclaimed. Now thats a knock out!
