Pretty remote, eh? Ken said as the two made there way up a mountain.
Yeah, Ryu replied. Reminds me a lot of our old temple. And Master Gouken...
(Whirlwind Kick!) Ryu cried out, swinging his foot around at Ken, who easily blocked it.
(Good!) Gouken said. (You two have officially mastered the basic chi powered attacks. Now it is time to take the next step. Watch carefully.)
Ryu and Ken stood back and watched their master carefully. Gouken positioned himself in the traditional meditation stance that Ryu and Ken had practiced so long to perfect. Suddenly bits of blue energy surged into Gouken. But the energy did not hurt Gouken, who slowly changed his position and drew his body back, placing his hands as if they had a ball inside of them. Suddenly, to the two students surprise, a ball did form inside of Goukens hands, made out of the energy that was quickly charging into him. The ball grew bigger and bigger, and became so bright Ryu and Ken could no longer look directly at it.
HADOKEN!
Gouken pushed his body and arms forward, letting the Fireball go flying straight ahead of him. The Fireball hit a mountain and blasted off at least five yards from the top.
(The Hadoken, Gouken said. (Yes, Ryu,) Gouken said. (And I intend to teach them to you. If youre willing to learn.)
Ryu and Ken smiled at each other, then faced Gouken.
(You can bet on it!) Ken said.
Ryu and Ken finally reached the top of the mountain, and came face to face with an old, red temple. Few spectators were there, and most were inhabitants of the temple. Ken tied his hair up with his red band and then placed his fighting gloves on, stepping into the center of the plateau.
(Greetings, boy,) Retsu said as he came into view from the temple. (I hope youre prepared to die.)
Retsu was bald, like the other natives from the temple, but he wore a flashier clothing. The other monks gis were either white or black. Retsus was white witih a black vest, and on the back was a Japanese symbol.
(Retsu verses Ken,) one of the monks said. (Fight!)
Ken quickly got into his fighting position and the two squared off.
(Shotokan, eh?) Retsu said in japanese, which Ken knew almost better than american. (Ive fought one of you before.)
Huh?! Ken exclaimed. (But there are no other Shotough!)
Kens verbalization was quickly cut off by Retsus huge hand smacking into Kens face, hard.
(Ill tell you of him,) Retsu said, (if you live through this!)
Ken quickly countered, spinning around and backhanding Retsu in the face. Retsu fell to the ground, but was quick to rise to his feet again and he swung his huge foot at Kens head. Ken blocked, but was still forced to the left, and his head rammed into the side of the cliff. Ken ignored the pain and pushed off the the mountain side and hopping into the air, hitting Retsu with a Whirlwind Kick. Retsu whirled to the ground, but quickly pushed off with his hands and stepped back up to his feet.
He and Ken then circled around the plateau, watching the other intently. Ken lost his patience more quickly than Retsu, and attacked with a flurry of punches. Retsu blocked most of the attacks, then retaliated by crushing Kens nose with his fist. Blood spewed out of Kens nose as he groaned in pain. Retsu, seeing that Ken was distracted a little, then grabbed Ken by his red gi top and threw him to the other side of the plateau. Ken skidded across the ground, but flipped back up to his feet.
Unfortunetly, his feet were met by nothing but air as he fell from the cliff.
Ken quickly grabbed a hand hold and flipped back up, kicking the dashing Retsu in the stomach and sending the monk flying backward and out of breath.
(A valiant attempt, boy,) Retsu said. (But you cannot match my might.)
Retsu charged madly. Ken swung at him with a Lightning Heel Kick, but Retsu had predicted a move like that, and easily dodged it. Ken prepared for Retsu to grab his foot while it was in mid-air and toss him to the other side of the plateau, but to his surprise Retsu merely attacked him straight on, pounding on Ken relentlessly with his fists. Finally Ken was able to get up the strength to kick Retsu in the chest and discontinue Retsus relentless pounding.
Ken coughed up a bit of blood, and his nose was still dripping badly. He felt shots of aching pain throughout his body, and knew hed have countless bruises by the time this was over. But he was far from beaten.
(Youre going to pay for breaking my nose, baldy!) Ken said, clenching his fists and charging.
(I suppose Ill pay for cracking your ribs too,) Retsu said as Ken sprinted at him, topspeed.
Before Ken could stop himself Retsu back handed him in the face with his large hand, knocking Ken down. But Retsu wasnt about to stop there. He then stomped his foot down on Kens side, fulfilling his promise to Ken. Ken made a horrible shout as at least three of his rib cracked. His whole body was shivering, the pain hurt so bad.
Gotta...ignore...pain... Ken thought as his vision blurred a bit.
(I am afraid I must conclude this battle, boy,) Retsu said, grabbing Kens hair and lifted up his head. He held his hand up high in the air, ready to deliver a chop to Kens neck.
(Would you mind...if I concluded it for you?) Ken asked. With lightning speed Ken wrapped his legs around Retsus head and threw him across the plain. Retsu got up to his feet, but was quickly met by Ken attacking him fiercly. Retsu was caught off guard and hit with a rally of punches and kicks from Ken. When the japanese fighter finally fell Ken grabbed him by the shirt and slammed him into the mountain side, then hit him with a Lightning Heel Kick, this time sucessful. Retsu fell again, but did not get up again.
