Enlightenment
Further down memory lane, in fall 1993, something had caught my eye when I was visiting an arcade in a Downtown mall. I had just been spanked in the (multi-player) tournament version of "Super Street Fighter 2", when I noticed some Asian kid wearing a shirt with what looked to be "Abel" from "Dragon Warrior" on it. He was wearing a orange karate gi and in his arms was a kid in traditional Chinese garb. The picture intrigued me so I asked the kid if it was from Dragon Warrior. He shot me a puzzled look and then corrected me.

Huh?

"It's from Dragon Ball..."

"Ball?" I asked.

"Yep, 'Ball'." his brother, nearby, chimed.

"Who's that sitting there with the kid, then?" I referred to the character who could have been "Abel's" twin.

"His name's Goku. You've never heard of Dragon Ball?" the younger who was wearing the shirt, asked.

I was truly at a loss, and before I was able to fulfill my curiosity on this "Dragon Ball", the kids' mother called for them to leave. Left on my own to find out about this "new world".

Internet access was hard to come by for me back in the early '90's, otherwise I could have found out about DB that very night. Very few of my friends had the net, and those that did also had "a$$hole" parents that didn't want anyone outside the family using it. (I could understand the reasoning behind that, but it was still trifilin' for me!)

Until Summer '95, my only resource to Dragon Ball were game magazines, either with their reviews of import games, brief references to the series, fan art, or the ads for import merchandise in the rear (especially GameFan and EGM). Finally, while I was attending ITT Technical Institute, I became friends with another student who happened to have internet access. It was through AOL at the time, ugh - but beggars can't be choosers. For the first time, I was able to surf the net and what was the first thing I searched for?

You guessed it. Anime.

The first series in my searching agenda was Dragon Ball,
